You are driving to Chicago ?!?!
Off to Kmart for some camping gear and nail polish! Every girl must have pretty toes even when camping!
Where can you find sweatshirts in June in Oregon? Should be easy since its always cold but no! We went to a few places and finally found warm gear at old navy.
We drove in the back woods of Oregon to get to Detroit state park to meet up with ranger Tom.
At lunch we told him about our plans to drive back to Chicago. He was pretty surprised especially when we told him we had to be back on the
12th! Ahhh we can do it
After a nice lunch he showed us our campsite and took off to work. Yes! We had to assemble the tent on our own. Thank god for girl scouts! 20 mins later tent up not to mention in the rain! The campsite is amazing on a beautiful lake.
Not much to do in the rain but drink miller lite and paint our nails. This is what camping is all about! We saw a wood pecker and a chipmunk. Tonight we will see fireworks over the lake!
Tom has checked in on us! We are on a campsite that doesn't exist but never the less we are camping. And we are prepared. Ponchos, chairs, beer, tent, flashlights, head lights, beer, junk food, beer, water, towels, sheets and more beer! We are good to go!
Now if it would stop raining. :(
Update! Eye candy just arrived next to us!
Olympic trials?
So after leaving the Golden Gate bridge we were hell bent on making it to Oregon. Oregon or bust! You know Mama Kiernan said we were behind schedule so we had to make up the time! A little mapping out our trip was done by Rebecca during the drive to keep us on track and to make sure all of July 7th wasn't going to be spent in the car. That's a special day for some reason. Can't remember why right now.
Driving on a whole lot of circumstances roads takes it out of you and may may you a little nauseous at times. Anyways...making it to Oregon felt so good and we had to pull over to take pictures, or come to a screaching halt when Jeanne realized that we almost missed the "welcome to Oregon" sign. Pictures done; on to find a ghost town. The one thing Rebecca really wants to do here in this state. So we find one on those trusty smart phones in lovely cottage grove, cherry grove, maple grove. Well it was one of those groves. Driving through that town realizing this is not a ghost town at all maybe a circus town, like every other town we seem to have gone through. Rebecca stops to talk to the two men keeping watch outside their shop to see where this so-called ghost town is. They politely (haha) tell her there is no such thing and that the closest one is 35 miles away. Oh wait no, just kidding that was torn down 6 or 7 years ago, right Bud? Yea them damn kids were playing around in there so they busted it down. So Rebecca believes they are bullshitting her or what we like to call yanking your yodel and continues to ask if they are for real. Yup Bud and Pappy are for real. So back on the road we go. Still singing along to Cat Stevens. Find a place to sleep is our next goal. Stop off at a campsite with all the boy scouts of America. Nah we will keep going. Eugene Oregon. Sounds great; big city. There will be plenty of places to stop. Remember this is an unplanned road trip. Yea well 4th of July weekend, college orientation, and Olympic trials=no vacancies! Motel 6 turned us away! At least Rebecca got a free tootsie roll out of that! Delerium is now starting to set in. Motel is found 45 min away after 11 hours. That last stretch was a fun one. We will leave it at that!
